Selection and evolution experiments play a central role in characterizing the repeatability and predictability of evolution. To distinguish predictable patterns from the inherent stochasticity of evolution, we conduct massively parallel experiments under controlled conditions and evolutionary parameters. This central project establishes state-of-the-art techniques for the evolution of microbes and viruses and their phenotypic characterization, which are of use for the CRC projects and beyond.
